Violin Tip of the Day
For Violin Students of All Ages
Practice and Rehearsal Tips.  Technique Pointers.  Violin Care Guidance. Exercises and Motivation for Violinists, Fiddlers or Anyone Interested in Stringed Instruments.
Today's Tip
Remember that when you play the violin, the amount of pressure that you exert with the fingers of the left hand is very important.

What we try to do is exert sufficient pressure, or weight, to allow the string to "ring" cleanly.  Any pressure beyond that is actually detrimental.  If you are squeezing or pressing down you are actually lessening your ability to finger rapidly.  Some violin teachers say that the finger should come down only with its own weight.  Ideally that is the case.  But in practice, most violinists I know use some pressure against the fingerboard.  But remember, the less pressure the better.
