|A violin should be bowed perpendicular to the strings and parallel to the bridge in a straight line. Do not scrub the bow up and down the strings. A good way for a parent to coach this skill is to place your hand in a location that a perfectly drawn bow will tap your hand at the end of a down bow or up bow. Provide a target for the student, but don't allow the student to look at the target. After ten or twenty perfect down or up bows give the student a reward, then start again. Aim for three perfect sets.
