Mirror, Mirror On The Wall.

Here is a tip that is equally useful for new and experienced violinists.  You can learn a lot about the way you play by watching yourself in a mirror. 
Posture!  Bow Grip!  Bow Tracking!  Fingering!  All of these can be checked to one extent or another by looking at your reflection.  Not only do you see yourself from an entirely different angle, but you can analyze changes that you implement immediately. 

Another great use of the mirror is as a motivator for young students.  Just listen to them giggle as they see their own facial expressions while they are playing difficult passages!  Just make sure that you get back on track afterwards!
