| Beginning students can be frustrated playing the violin because they do not like the sound they make as they bow the instrument. For the next few days we will discuss how you can change your sound by altering the way you use your bow.
There are three bowing variables that affect the violin's sound. 1. Where you place the bow on the string at the beginning of the note, as well as the path the bow travels as you draw the bow. 2. How fast you draw the bow. 3. How much weight you place on the bow. This is sometimes seen as how hard you press the bow against the string. So, get out your bow. Clean it up. Get out your rosin. And let's get ready to work on sound. |
