Violin Tip of the Day
For Violin Students of All Ages
Practice and Rehearsal Tips.  Technique Pointers.  Violin Care Guidance. Exercises and Motivation for Violinists, Fiddlers or Anyone Interested in Stringed Instruments.
Today's Tip
Tension is the enemy of good violin playing.

Neck, shoulders, left hand and right hand!  All of these should be as relaxed as possible.

I knew a violin student who squeezed the his right hand so hard that he actually damaged his bow.  It is not possible to play well if you are squeezing the bow so hard that you can't manipulate it easily.  A hand that squeezes too tight does not allow you to make any of the bouncing bowstrokes.

A relaxed right hand will go a long way toward helping you to increase the dexterity with which you manipulate the bow!
