|Being sure to wipe down your violin and bow with a lint-free cloth after each playing will go a long way toward keeping it looking great, but sometimes it's necessary to go a step beyond just wiping down the violin and actually clean it.
Never use a commercial wood cleaner or polish on your violin. They can damage some varnishes. Simply wiping the violin after playing should take care of most cleaning. If you absolutely must use some sort of cleaner, one of those listed below is recommended. Once you use a cleaner, be sure to use a violin polish to provide a protective coat again.
