Periodically check the position of your left hand.  When you look up the fingerboard at the fingers and thumb of your left hand you should see a backwards letter C.

Make sure that your wrist is in the correct position, and that you have not allowed the violin to slip down to the web between your thumb and your first finger.

Remember, it is not the job of the left hand to support the violin!
