If you have been visiting this site for very long you know that I thing hand and finger exercises are great. Flexibility, finger independence and muscular endurance are all important to be able to play violin well.  I believe that you should do some sort of hand exercise every day.

Here is an exercise that will help to build endurance in your hand so that you can play violin for long periods of time without fatigue or pain.
Hold the corner of a sheet of newspaper in one hand.  Then, using only that hand, crumple as much of the paper into your fist as you can.  When you are holding as much as you can, give the wad a good, hard squeeze fifty times.  Repeat with your bow hand.

Don't do the same exercise every day.  If you do this exercise today, find another hand exercise to do tomorrow.  Then come back to this one the day after tomorrow.  Changing around the exercises regularly helps you to not get bored and to assure that you address many exercise-related issues over time.
