Violin Maintenance
Rosin, Sweat, Fingerprints, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Dust, and Tears have all at one time or another been on my violin.  Of course, I am probably much more careless with my instrument than you are.

But all of us at one time or another need to clean up the instrument and make it look a little bit better.  It may just need to be restored to its former lustre.  It may need rosin removed from the belly and strings.  It may have a bridge that has just bent beyond straightening.  The chinrest may be loose.  Pegs slip.  Pegs stick.  There are dozens of things that can go wrong with a violin that just a little bit of care and the right tool or product can fix up in a jiffy.  Here are some items that you may find handy.  Most of them are not very expensive, and you may not use some of them for years, but when you need them they are sure handy to have around!
The String Centre Peg Drops
The first simple cure for slipping and squeaking pegs. 1/2 oz plastic bottle. One drop stops slipping pegs without removing from instrument
Glaesel Stringed Instrument Polish
Polish for stringed instruments.
Hill Peg Compound
Hill Peg Composition helps to lubricate pegs that no longer turn smoothly. To use, remove the peg (only one at a time), and draw a thin line of compound around the peg, where it contacts the peg box. Reinsert the peg without the string, and turn to work in the compound. If the peg still clicks, repeat the process, but use the compound sparingly.  When the peg moves properly, reinsert the string and tune.
